I’ve taken up genealogy and creating my family tree. It’s incredibly fun. I’ve already met new people and I’ve deepened bonds with my parents.
But the work of it is… fact checking. A worldwide fact-checking mission!
Does that family legend hold up to scrutiny?
My mom’s side always said they lived around the corner from screen legend Mae West. Driving around in Queens, NY, to Mom’s old home, I saw a historical marker for Mae West. Evidence! So I finally believed it.
Analytics is the same. You can’t go in looking to prove a conclusion, to prove you are related to a notable person, to prove your content strategy is working.
You have to do the science and follow the data.
You have to be open to being wrong.
Shine a light on what is true and look at it, learn from it, evolve.
Don’t market in the dark.
