Freelancing

With nearly a year of unemployment looming, and probably close to a thousand job applications behind me, on August 25, my pruned public social media accounts, dressed up to be presentable for potential employers who might Google me, went private. And then, I posted, frequently and authentically. About my life, my hobbies, job searching.

In a post on September 25, I wondered rhetorically with my community about becoming a full-time freelancer. It sounded good. Really good. Other people agreed. I stopped applying for full time jobs, and I followed my gut toward different opportunities.

Today, October 16, a regular Wednesday, I completed 6.5 hours of paid freelance work, for two different clients. I have a CRM to track all of my leads and sales. There’s more work tomorrow. I AM WORKING!

I’m more confused than ever about what’s happening with the job market. For me, freelancing is so much more fun than the Oliver-style “Please sir, may I have a job” vibe that I have felt for 12 months.

Hey, I am working but I’m not fully booked – send me a message! Let’s talk!
